A Bio-Hybrid Drone Featuring Electroantennograms Sensor

We combined a Bio-hybrid with an Electroantenogram (EAG), device to create a drone with odor detection capability. The device is equipped with a tilt sensor and the flight controller sets the drone at an angle of 270 degrees to the odor source. To determine the maximum concentration of the smell, we used a spiral surge algorithm. To collect data and take pictures, the drone flew to the source of the odor.

Bio-hybrid drone

To detect airborne volatile chemicals, we need a bio-hybrid drone with a sensor. A bio-hybrid drone with an antenna that detects chemical plumes has an advantage over current robotic systems: it can detect both chemical sources and their locations. As shown in Figure 4B it detects many chemicals thanks to its odorant-sensing analogue. Bio-hybrid drones with these sensors are not only safer to fly, but also provide an excellent proof of concept for localization of odor sources and chemicals.
